Es aconsejable que las primeras sesiones se den con frecuencia (una o dos por semana, dependiendo del motivo de consulta) y a medida que se va estabilizando el problema se pueden ir espaciando de forma quincenal. Cuando el tratamiento va finalizando se hacen sesiones de seguimiento que son al mes, cada tres meses, seis meses, nueve meses y al año.
